Aortic valve replacement (AVR) has developed into an operation that carries very little risk for the patient and yields excellent long-term results. Conventional AVR has proved safe and effective over time.1 Although the minimally invasive approach for AVR (mini-AVR) has been around for more than a decade and large series of these operations have been performed at some cardiac surgical centers in the United States and Europe, thorough scientific evaluation of the method has been lacking. The only obvious outcome after mini-AVR is that the scar is merely one third the length of a scar left by a full sternotomy
