Aortic valve replacement (AVR) has developed into an operation that carries very little risk for the patient and yields excellent long-term results. Conventional AVR has proved safe and effective over time.1 Although the minimally invasive approach for AVR (mini-AVR) has been around for more than a decade and large series of these operations have been performed at some cardiac surgical centers in the United States and Europe, thorough scientific evaluation of the method has been lacking.
